For many years, a number of different studies have been identifying and segmenting the different types of motivations that drive workers to succeed in their jobs. Researchers have now taken this research one step further and identified three specific categories of people with different motivations for work.

Job-Oriented

Firstly, there’s the group of people that’s motivated by pay day first and foremost. This type of worker lives for the weekend and generally goes to his or her nine-to-five to get the work done and earn enough cash to support their weekend habits, hobbies and home life. When they come home at night, they generally don’t bring work back with them.

Career-Oriented

This go-getter is always on the lookout for the next promotion to benefit their social status and lifestyle. It’s possible that they don’t enjoy their work or even the pay but if the job is going to channel their motivation for prestige and advancement, then they’ll stick it out until their next big break.

Calling- Oriented

This worker truly believes in the work he or she does. Calling-oriented people see their job as an important part of their life- one that they enjoy and one that they think is going to make the world a better place. Those who fit into this category are the most likely to enjoy the highest satisfaction from work and from their lives in general.
